While studying for the CELPIP-G test, I made some notes of each task that help me to prepare for the test. These are the tips that I can give you.

The P for each question means Preparation Time and the S means Speaking Time.

  • At least one advantage and one disadvantage, the best is two of each

TASK 2. Talk about a personal experience - P: 30s S: 60s

  • Try to conclude the sentence before the time ends

Task 3, Describing a scene - P: 30s S: 60s

  • Use the 5 Ws to help (who/what/where/when/why)
  • Do not attempt to describe all the things in the picture
  • Use a lot of prepositions of place (next to/behind/between/etc)
  • Be as descriptive as possible to tell a story or pass feelings. Give details of what is happening
  • Imagine the other person cannot see the picture

Task 4: Making predictions - P: 30s S: 60s

  • use the 60s to choose one.
  • Jot down the reasons why you choose this (it will be good for convincing)

Task 5B: Comparing and persuading - P: 60s S: 60s

  • look for differences
  • choose at least 3 ways your fridge is better
  • try to not repeat the information in the boxes
  • Remember that you are trying to persuade your family member.
  • finish you an affirmative opinion

TASK 6: Dealing with a difficult situation - P: 60s S: 60s

  • Effectively justify the decision
  • Give strong reasons for your decision
  • Be careful as you don’t want to make the person upset or angry
  • Use logic and show how the arguments are related
  • Use a firm, yet polite and well-mannered speaking style and tone of voice

Task 7: Express opinions - P: 30s S: 90s

  • State the opinion and support it with logical reasoning
  • Choose quick, list reasons
  • Start with the option you choose and explain why that
  • Start with phrases that clearly state the reason

Task 8: Describing an unusual situation - P: 30s S: 60s

  • Think about the details you describe
  • Take note of the situation described in the prompt
  • List the details
  • Think of words that describe precisely what you see or think of simpler words that can explain the same thing.
  • Remember that the person on the other side cannot see the image that you are seeing.

These are some tips that helped me. But in truth, in the test time, it is difficult to remember everything, so the best way is to practice them a lot before. Also, consult other materials that can help you, like their preparation materials and the sample tests.

Good luck with it!
