Grouse Mountain is one of the most accessible mountains in Vancouver and it is home to two very popular trails: Grouse Grind and BCMC Trail. Both the BCMC trial and the Grouse Grind trail are challenging hikes not because of the distance but because of the elevation gain. Of the two I think BCMC traill is the easier one.
Grouse Mountain is very accessible because you can reach it by public transportation (buses), or go by Evo car sharing as you can park your Evo there (is considered a “home zone”).
We wanted to have contact with nature and the Grouse Hikes are very good for it. We decided to use the BCMC trail to hike up the Grouse mountain as Grouse Grind was closed.
According to the AllTrails App, the BCMC Trail is around 2.4 km within an elevation game of 791 meters.
We went at a very slow and enjoyable pace as we wanted to appreciate the beautiful nature while doing outdoor exercises.
The winter Vancouver is very cloudy and somewhat depressing and outdoor activities are a good way to move the body and also renew the energy. We usually don’t have snow in the city and the mountains are a good opportunity to really experience the winter with snow and everything.
We could see snow from the beginning of the mountain, and we needed to put the spikes after 20 minutes of going up the mountain. Spikes in this case were really recommended because otherwise, it was very slippery.
As we went slower It took us around two hours to get to the top of the mountain but we stopped and enjoyed a lot the view and the snow.
I was amazed by the trees covered in snow, and the floor full of snow. It is really nice and calming view. My wife mentioned that it looked like we were in Narnia.
It was a really good way to do some exercise and also enjoy the outdoors in a very cold and cloudy winter even in Vancouver. Also, a good way to burn some calories. My Fitbit said I burned 772 calories.
If you are bored at home and want to enjoy nature and do some exercise, consider the BCMC Trail.
Cheers.
