I just came back from the Tunnel Bluffs from Lions Bay hike (AllTrails link) and the view at the end is amazing.
I decided to go on this hike on a Thursday because I was off work and I wanted it a hike with a view that was accessible by public transportation. This hike is around an hour and a half by bus from downtown Vancouver.
From the bus stop to the official start of the hike is 30 minutes (1.5km) and it already starts with elevation.
The first 4km is where you get 600 meters of elevation gain which is almost all the elevation gain of this hike (as it is an out and back, you will have to go down) and the rest is very flat almost all the way to end. Just in the last meters, you go up again to reach the viewpoint.
I went in the middle of March so after around 3 km it started to have snow on the floor. Crampons are really recommended (the way down is the most dangerous part).
As I went during the week, it was really quiet. I saw less than 20 people in total and I was by myself almost all the time. It was really calming and enjoyable.
I decided not to use headphones or anything and just stay with nature and with my thoughts. It is a really recharging experience.
The view at the end is amazing. Really amazing. It is one of the most beautiful views from a hike that I have been to. Also, the day was really good when I went.
The total length for me was 15.8km with an elevation gain of 732 meters and a moving time of 3 hours and 44 minutes.
I will for sure be back on this hike and bring my wife together so we can appreciate the view and the hike together.
Cheers.
